Tips

What goes on a restaurant gift card

  • An amount or an experience : “50 €” or “Tasting menu for two”: an experience often speaks more to the giver. You can also have several versions (30. 50. 100 €) in the same order.
  • Validity period : A date or a period, often a year, shown on the back. It avoids cards turning up three years later at the bottom of a drawer.
  • Short terms and conditions : Redeemable in one or more visits, by booking only, drinks not included… Two lines are enough; the details can go on your website.
  • A different code on each card : A unique QR code or number, printed from your file: you know which card has been sold and redeemed, with no double redemption.
  • Your contact details : Address, booking link, social media: the card passes from hand to hand, so it must say where to find you.

Recommended finishes

For a card worth keeping

  • Hot foil : On the name or the logo: the chic bistro or fine-dining effect.
  • Sleeve or envelope : To present the card like a real gift, at the counter or by post.
  • 350 g card : If you write the name and amount in pen at the till.

How it works

From template to your cards in four steps

  1. 1. Choose a templateClick “Customise”: adapt the template online, then its reference is added to your quote request.
  2. 2. Send your logo and textName, colours, wording and variable data file: we adapt the template to your brand.
  3. 3. Approve the proofYou receive a free digital proof. Nothing is printed without your approval.
  4. 4. Receive your cardsProduction in 6 to 10 working days after approval, delivery across Europe and the UK.

Variable data

Different on every card, always in black

Barcode, QR code, number, and for student ID cards the photo and name: this data changes from one card to the next. We print it in black, on a light area of the design, from your Excel file.

Areas to be filled in by hand (amount, name, signature) are always on a light background. On paper, you write on them directly. On PVC, this is rare: as an option, they are printed on a signature panel, like the signature strip on a bank card; otherwise we replace them with your text. Stamp cards, for their part, are printed on card.

Materials

PVC or paper?

  • 0.76 mm PVC : credit card size, sturdy, with optional foil, chip or magnetic stripe. PVC gift cards
  • 350 g card : more economical, you write directly on it in pen. Paper gift cards
  • Packaging : branded sleeves, envelopes and boxes. Gift card packaging

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about gift card templates

When should we order our gift cards for Christmas?

Allow three to four weeks before the launch date: time to approve the proof, produce (6 to 10 working days) and deliver, with a safety margin.

Should the amount be printed on the card?

No. You can leave an “Amount” field to be filled in by hand, or print several versions with different amounts in the same order.

How do I keep track of cards sold?

With a unique number or QR code on each card, printed from your list: you record the sale, then the redemption, in your till or a simple spreadsheet.

Do the templates cost extra?

The template is not charged separately: adapting it to your logo and text is priced together with the printing, in your quote.

Can the colours, font or layout be changed?

Yes. We use your brand’s colours and typography. If you would like an entirely new design, say so in your request: we will quote for a bespoke design.

Can the templates be downloaded?

The templates are not available for download: we adapt them for you and send you a proof. If you already have your file, simply attach it to your request.

What is the minimum quantity?

From 50 cards on PVC and 100 cards on paper.

Write-on areas

The clear adhesive film, open: it folds over the card once the photo is stuck on and the details written.

Signature panel option: on PVC, the marked areas are printed on a signature panel, like the signature strip on a bank card, for writing with a ballpoint pen.

On PVC, handwritten fill-in areas are rare: without the signature panel option, the fill-in block is removed (this is the version shown) and replaced with your text if needed.

On paper, the fill-in areas are written on directly in pen.

Stamp card: printed on card, with no code; each box measures at least 13 mm, for a standard stamp.

Write-on card with adhesive film: the photo is stuck in the frame, the details are written in pen, then the pre-glued clear film folds over to protect everything.

The QR code or barcode is printed in black, different on every card; a visible number can be added on request. The names and text are examples: we replace them with yours.
